How Cerritos College students stay warm.
Cerritos College students have more than just classes to worry about, the cold weather has become a pat of their daily struggle.
Around campus students are spending less time outside and more time inside. Buildings are becoming busier than ever with students trying their best to stay warm.
Kimberly Delgado 19, business major, said she bundles up on sweaters depending on how cold it is. “I don’t really get cold that easily, for the most part I’ll wear shorts with tights under and sweaters never jackets,” said Delgado.
Around campus students are seen rushing through the strong winds to get to class. Some brave students are not bothered by the weather and choose to sit outside on the theatre steps.
Delgado says the pouring rain stops her from coming to school unless she really has to. “Even with pouring rain I don’t get as cold but rain mixed with wind is a disaster and I don’t like coming to campus,” she said.
You can find Delgado hanging out in the student center game room with friends, “All of them make fun of me for wearing shorts with tights but I don’t own much clothing to keep me warm so I just stay inside,” she said.
Student athletes like, Mariah Laura, 20 an undeclared major is a part of the schools basketball team, even though they practice inside she still has a hard time staying warm. “I like to bundle up with jackets and sweaters and drink warm coffee,” said Laura
Laura said if she were not a student athlete she’d choose the option of staying home. “I’m mainy inside buildings, I don’t like to be outside when it’s cold,” she said. She doesn’t have a s[efici building to hang out in, “Honestly, I just look to see if there’s any open seats and sit down till my next class starts,” she said while laughing.
Most students were all in a hurry with their hands in their jean pockets and shoulders raised up to stay warm. Places like the student center food court and hang out area were filled with students and most of the Cerritos staff were inside.
Janitor carts were seen empty and stranded with no janitor inside. The weather effects more than just students.
Uma, 26, and child development major was in a rush to get inside her car but stopped to let me know how she stays warm. “Tea, tea, and tea,” she said, “It keeps me awake and helps me focus.”
Uma says she has no choice when it comes to showing up to class, “I come four days a week and have never missed a class, it’s important to show up since I paid to be here.”
The cold weather really affects students and staff from showing up to school, around the campus it seems very lonely and empty. Hopefully, this weather does not last long so students can continue to focus on their classes and not the weather and building can become less crowded.
