Cerritos’s College graduation is next week on May 24 and it should and will be a day of congratulation for all the hard work accomplished by these graduates.

I will be one of those graduates obtaining my Associate’s degree in Journalism and as the day is getting closer the excitement is stacking up.
Now, for everyone graduating be proud and do not be afraid to show off all the hard work you put in to get to this point in your education journey.

Earning an associates degree is not as glorified as earning a bachelors degree but it does not mean anything less. You worked hard to get to this point and in the end, it still is a degree.
The main focus should be that you’re still pursuing an education and that’s all that matters.

Earning a degree from secondary education is not talked about to high school students and it’s wrong. How does the school system expect to make their students open-minded and great decision makers when all they care about is the number of students graduating is going to a four year.

Throughout my final months of high school, no counselor or teacher wanted to help me with my application process for Cerritos College.
I was lost and had no guidance at home since I will be the first person in my household to earn a higher education degree.

Going to a community college does not mean you were not smart enough to get into a four year. Most of the time it has to do with financial reasons or mental health reasons.
Some students are not able to handle the fast-paced environment that most four-year universities throw at their first-year students. Many of my friends at four-years have said they wished they attended a community college first to save money but were afraid to do so because it was seen as a bad choice.

Overall, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to show off your achievements. Your hard work is paying off and on the 24 of May make sure to march through that stage with pride.
